We Can All Get A Grip
I was always told, and always told others, that you should never tell anyone struggling with mental illness to “get a grip.”
It was like saying walk it off, cheer up, can’t you be happy, just for once?
It was insulting and hurtful and suggested a lack of understanding of mental illness, as though you have some kind of control.
But as I finally started to address my own mental health struggles, I not only realized that I could get a grip of many of my mental health challenges, and be much better off for it, but that we all have the ability to get a strong grip on our mood, happiness, and mental health.
